Discover/Recover Theatre Project is a piece of locally developed theatre designed to support education on mental health issues and recovery developed from the real life stories of individuals from county Wexford. This project, through the sharing of sincere true life stories, offers not only a rare glimpse into a hidden world but also offers enlightenment and hope. The project has been in development since 2015 and will be supported by an independent feasibility study examining the effectiveness and sustainability of the project model.
Discover/Recover Theatre Project is a community collaborative spanning mental health services, arts and the education sectors. At the core of the project are individuals with lived experience of mental health difficulties who contributed their stories in the creation of the work.
The project is managed creatively and administratively by the Wexford Mental Health Association with the full support of LEADER Funding through Wexford Local Development and was therefore available free of charge to senior cycle within secondary schools in Wexford County in 2019..
8 performances in total in September 2019 reached up to 1000 senior cycle school students all of which will participate in a post-performance mental health related workshop back at their schools. Initial feedback received from students and teachers has been very positive.
Well done to all involved in the project!
